The RORC is considering a race to
Madeira and back as part
part of its points series in 2008. The distance to
Madeira
from the Solent is approximately 1300nm and it is envisaged that the race will commence from Cowes
after Cowes Week on Monday 11th August.
Each leg of the race will count
separately for points.
In view of the likely duration of each leg of 7 to 10 days,
crew changes will be permitted in Madeira.
The start of the second leg, from Madeira to Cowes,
will be no less than 24 hours after the first leg finish. Probable restart after
72hrs to allow rest for those
doing both legs. Service the yacht, clean and prepare her for the
return leg.
Qualification races will be required,
this means that participants will be required to complete a
minimum of 300 NM of RORC offshore racing.
These events
are likely to include the Cervantes Trophy and the Myth of Malham.
Madeira is a beautiful island off
south west Portugal.
We hope to
generate enough interest to allow the
rental of a villa or hotel accommodation so the change over crew can relax in the sun while they await the yachts arrival.
Equally it gives the arriving crew a chance to relax
before flying home.
The yacht is geared up
for eight.
To compete in the
Madeira Race we need a minimum of 14 or 6 for each leg. Ideally we
will have 16, 8 for each leg. Or should you wish you may choose to
do both legs there & back.
